About the author

Hello,
My name is Vanessa Katsoolis. I am responsible for this blog, and here are some useless facts about me:

  • I am part Kiwi, part Australian, and part Greek. I don’t know which parts are which.
  • I grew up in New Zealand, but now live in Maroochydore, QLD – Australia. It’s so beautiful here.
  • When I was little I begged God to turn me into a mermaid every single night before I went to sleep.
  • I am not a mermaid.
  • I am a nurse. Don’t ask me to describe in any detail how and why I love my job, because I’ll  cry. I love it to tears.
  • I dont like sweets.
  • I have two sons from my first marriage. They are the most beautiful, gentle, kind and wonderful children I have ever met. I often wonder how, out of all the children in the whole world, I got the best two.
  • I grew up with my 5 sisters and 1 very strong, interesting, warm and wise mother
  • I am a Christian. I am trying to learn how to be a good one. I stumble and trip through my faith every day, but my faith is sincere, the foundations of which simply come down to the fact that I just love Jesus a heck of a lot.
  • In high school I could fit my entire hand in my mouth.
  • I love live music. I love concerts and raves, and music festivals.
If you have lost me at a concert, start looking up the front, beside the stage. That is where you would probably find me, jumping up and down, hair coming loose, covered in everyone else’s sweat, throwing my arms up, and screaming my head off. Yes, I love live music.
  • As a child, I used to make daisy chains several meters long during the summer and then leave them outside peoples houses, tents or caravans as an anonymous gift.

And that’s me in a nutshell,

Vanessa

Thank you for being honest and I will be praying for your 1000 day quest. God bless. 🙂

  2.

thanks for following my blog! think what you’re doing here is really cool, thanks for sharing about it 🙂 interested to find out where your motivation to do it came from, especially if it had anything to do with your faith?
Whatever the motivation it’s really courageous and counter-cultural and yet it sounds like it is and will be extremely beneficial, well done and keep going! God bless 🙂

    •

I am so sorry I have not yet replied, I am on the road with my two boys at the moment and have had little access to internet. My motivation came from being utterly hurt, devastated and heart broken by two men in a row. I realised I needed a long time to heal so that I wouldn’t take the baggage of that hurt into a new relationship. I also needed to discover who I was again after the previous relationships had broken me down into a shell of my former self. Did God have anything to do with it? Of course. This is a good thing and all good things come from His hand. He has been using this time to teach me lessons I will never forget and my life is richer now than it has ever been. I credit all of that to Him.
      🙂

      •

Haha, no problem! great to hear back 🙂
So sorry to hear about the problems in your life but am glad that your relationship with God has seen you through them. I think that this is an awesome thing to be doing and so counter-cultural. Really hope people can see how just because the world tells us we always need to be in a relationship or searching for one, it doesn’t mean it is the only way to live. And not doing so has many benefits! 😀 God bless, keep strong and carry on!

  3.

Vanessa, I am so delighted to have found your blog, or that you found mine or… You remind me a little of me ‘down under’! I too love mermaids, have the world’s kindest most loving child, and have had at least one too many close encounters with the wrong men. -Have you read ‘A Mermaid’s Tale’ by Amanda Adams? A wonderful book! ~Much light and love to you and your family in the new year!

  8.

So that’s how you write a great About page! And your other posts are awesome! Thanks for sharing your stories and liking my writings – posts of a very inexperienced blogger.

  17.

Bravo on choosing to embark on wonderful journey of self-discovery! I think it is really cool what you’ve done and that you’ve committed yourself to exploring and understanding who you are. Without that as a starting point, how can we truly relate to anybody on any level? Good stuff!

  18.

God bless you so much. God always knows how to keep us going even when we seem we can’t….remember that. 😀

  19.

    Vanessa,
Your transparency is very refreshing and speaks volumes to so many who feel the same way but just don’t know how to articulate it. Thanks for your vulnerability,
    Macki

  27.

    Vanessa,
    I’ve enjoyed reading your blog!

    Umm Sadaqah

    P.S I love Jesus too!

  28.

You mean you’re not a mermaid?

  29.

You’re a lovely young woman. Not because of your looks, but because of your heart and soul. The words that flow from your fingers fire the imagination and remind the soul to hope. From one sojourner to another, keep remembering that the wonder in store is amazing, that the journey is worth the taking, and that the joy up ahead and even now defies all descriptions or attempts to render it into mere picture and wordplay. God bless, may He continue to increase your strength and courage and love.

  30.

Love the writing! Thank you for sharing, and good luck with the novels 🙂

  31.

    Vanessa… your blog n posts are as beautiful as you 🙂 A gr8 intro about yourself… 🙂

  32.

I can definitely relate to phases of highs and very deep lows, and how that relates to walking with Jesus and getting to know Him.
Stay encouraged in your walk. You’ve accomplished so much, and you are so young. Will love to read more from you!

    Ivy

    •

      Hey Jacob!
I just liked your style as soon as I read your stuff to be honest.
I dont have any recommendations other than: Just keep doing what you’re dong. When I started writing my mother said: “dont you EVER let anyone else dictate what you write’ I have stood by that. I liked your blog because it was interesting and well written. Keep going with whatever it is that you were going with because it worked for me. Thank you also for stopping by my own wee blog, that was a cool thing for you to do and I appreciate it. Keep writing Jacob… ill be reading….

    Hi Vanessa,
I stumbled on your little blog when you first began this adventure. It was the beginning of my own blogging tradition as well. Today I have been exploring the blogs that WordPress suggests to me, and here I am on your home again! I am warmly encouraged that you have been faithful to this quest and I absolutely love your honesty. “Gym Sex” is probably the best article I have read all week.
I would love to know more about your upcoming novel. Please keep me updated! I am on literary adventures of my own.

    Thanks for the entertainment,

    Reagan

    •

Eeeee! Yes the ‘Gym sex’ post seemed to hit a nerve with a few people thats for sure!
I have indeed remained true to my initial pledge and while it has been. at times, eye twitchingly difficult, it has also been wonderful/perfect/life changing.
People like you make my writing world go around and your support means more to me than you could know, so thank you. My up coming novel (should any publishing house be crazy enough to publish me) is still being worked on…. gosh it is harder to write a book than I thought!
I believe in it though and am thankful that other people believe in it also.

Thank you so much for your message.

      xoxo Ness

Does your website have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to send you an
email. I’ve got some creative ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great site and I look forward to seeing it improve over time.

  46.

Thank you for liking my post.
I Read some of your stories.. They are bright and exciting to read.

    Thanks again

  47.

    Hello Vanessa,

Your web site is an interesting concept and I think that it great you have over 9,000 followers.

I noted you said you are going for a BA in nursing…I pray you have better luck…than my being kicked out of an RN program two weeks before graduation because I complained of being bullied and harassed by the clinical instructor.

And I noted you listed that you are writing your first novel…Good! It is a tough field to break through…I have four self-published books I created through Amazon’s Create Space–free to publish and you buy your books at wholesale–

However, in the arena of publishing…it is definitely who you know and not what you know…

And, of course, avoid anyone who says for a fee that they will be promote your book…self publish your book–You can use Amazons Create Space for free or any one who says they get your book in front of the right people…or enter those eBook, short story or other contests that ask for a fee…

They don’t do as they promise because they are all scams!

Because your better off using blogs, social web sites, doing local signings and sending off you proposals to literary agents.

Here is a site that I have used–and you don’t have to pay to send off your proposals or for reading fees. http://aaronline.org/Find

Of course, writing and promoting is an endless endeavor…but eventually it will pay off.

    Sincerely,

    Laura L. Smith
